Conference Venue

The Global Symposium +5 was held at the Palais des Nations, Place des Nations, Geneva, Switzerland. All participants had to enter the Palais grounds through Gate 14, (Door Pregny opposite ICRC) and present identification to UN Security. Delegates then received a name badge and were directed to the conference venue.

The Working Groups (22-23 October) met in Room XIX of the Palais des Nations, which is located on the third floor of the E (New) building.

Reception

A reception was held on the evening of Thursday, 25 October and all participants were invited to attend.  Lunch was available at the Palais des Nations cafeteria.

Climate

The climate of Geneva is temperate maritime, with central Europe continental influence. The temperature in October range is between 7 and 14 degree Celsius. Some periods of rain are possible.

Electrical Appliances

The electric current in Switzerland is 220 V/50 Hz. Electric plugs in the Palais des Nation are 45 RG standard.

Public Transport

The Palais des Nations is served by several tram and bus lines: Tram number 13, 15 and buses 5, 8, 11, 14, 28, V, F, and Z serve the Place des Nations. Buses 8, 28, F and Z stop directly at the Pregny Gate (Appia stop) where the security office is located and where participants will need to register. Bus 28 serves Cointrin Airport from the Place des Nations. A standard ticket for the Geneva city area costs 3.00 Swiss francs. A taxi stand is located on Avenue de la Paix, 25 metres away from the Nations Gate. Taxis are usually available round the clock. The following direct telephone number will ensure arrival of a taxi within minutes: (41 22) 331 41 33. Participants can use the telephones located on the central desk by Door 40 to call taxis.

Banking

Banking facilities (UBS) are to be found on the ground floor of the A Building of the Palais des Nations, near Door 6, and on the second floor of the E Building, near Door 41. They will be open during normal working hours. Automatic transaction machines (ATMs) are available in both locations.
