Global Symposium +5 on Information for Humanitarian Action took place in Geneva, Switzerland, from the 22 – 26 October 2007 at the Palais des Nations. It brought together more than 300 participants in what was the largest and most diverse ever collaboration of humanitarian information professionals, and a milestone in building the community of practice on humanitarian information and knowledge.
The Symposium Final Report highlights participants' experiences in collecting, exchanging and analysing information aimed at strengthening humanitarian action through timely and reliable information. It documents the sharing of best practices, lessons learned and provides recommendations developed and supported by the participants. For hard copies of the report please contact info@reliefweb.int
Global Symposium +5 built upon a process that began five years earlier in 2002, at the Symposium on Best Practices in Humanitarian Information Exchange, held in Geneva, where the Statement on Best Practices for Humanitarian Information Management and Exchange was endorsed. It was further developed in a series of regional Humanitarian Information Network workshops in Bangkok, December 2003, Panama City, August 2005, and Nairobi, May 2006.
