Sudan: Returnees to Northern Bahr el Ghazal from north robbed

The Representative of the newly arrived returnees at Apada, west of Aweil, Chief Marko Mathiang Deng said that many returnees have been robbed of their properties and detained on their way back to Northern Bahr el Ghazal State by an unidentified group, especially in Nyama area of Southern Kordofan.

Speaking to Radio Miraya on Tuesday at Apada, west of Aweil Town, Deng called on the Governor of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State to resolve the issue with the Governor of Southern Kordofan.

Radio Miraya's correspondent spoke to some of the returnees who were robbed. "We were stopped by some people. They took my clothes, including the clothes I was wearing, along with 1500 Sudanese Pounds, my identity card and nationality certificate," one of the returnees told our correspondent. He added, they robbed his father of two thousand Sudanese Pounds. Another lady said all her property including clothes, bag and mobile were robbed.

Another victim told Miraya, "Police asked each driver to pay 20 pounds to escort us till we passed the Misseriya area, but drivers refused to pay. The head of the commission who was accompanying us in a different car told the police that returnees will travel alone without police escort. But unfortunately we were stopped and robbed."
