China - Hong Kong: Relief for mariculturists affected by Typhoon Nuri

Local mariculturists suffering serious losses caused by Typhoon Nuri last week may register from tomorrow (August 26) to September 3 with the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) for application of grants from the Emergency Relief Fund.

A department spokesman said today (August 25) that grants from the relief fund would be made to affected mariculturists according to established criteria.

The department's preliminary investigation has indicated that some local mariculturists were affected to various degrees by typhoon Nuri.

"The assistance is intended to provide some relief to affected mariculturists," the spokesman said.

Applicants for the fund should register at the following offices within the specified period:

* Tai Po Fisheries Office: 2/F, 3 Yu On Street, Sam Mun Tsai, Tai Po

* Sai Kung Fisheries Office: 5/F, 34 Chan Man Street, Sai Kung

They may also call 2150 7108 for registration or enquiries.

Affected mariculturists who need further financial assistance to rehabilitate their business may consider applying for Kadoorie Agricultural Aid Loan Fund. For enquiries, please call 2150 7096.
