Minister Kohout approved granting of a humanitarian aid

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Jan Kohout approved granting of a humanitarian aid on 20th November to following purposes:

1) Aid for Salvador which was stricken with a hurricane Ida. The humanitarian aid in an amount of 1.8 mil. CZK will be provided by the International Federation of Red Cross.

2) Aid in an amount of 1 mil. CZK is destined for Nicaragua which was stricken with the hurricane Ida too. The Humanitarian aid will be distributed by the Moravian church and will be aimed primarily on an elimination of damages in an Indian area Moskitie.

3) Aid in an amount of 2.5 mil CZK is destined for Central Emergency Response Fund of UNO. The fund is focused on promoting of early action in natural disasters and armed conflicts and for support of underfinanced humanitarian actions.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Jan Kohout also decided 5 mil. CZK aimed originally on a public infrastructure development in Gaza through a financial mechanism of the European Commission PEGASE will be aimed on contemporary UNRWA humanitarian projects for inhabitants of Gaza. A reason of the change is a continuous blockade of Gaza which has unabled a launch of reconstruction projects of the mechanism PEGASE.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic has spent a whole amount of its humanitarian budget 2009 (85 mil. CZK) by granting of aforementioned 5.3 mil. CZK.
