Malawi: Food Security Outlook Update March 2011

Attachments

Mid-season dry spells impact southern area of the country

Key Messages

- Green maize harvests have resulted in increased household food security in the food-insecure southern area of the country. With tobacco sales starting in March, there will be an increase in household incomes resulting in improved food security.

- Humanitarian assistance will take place in Blantyre district in addition to the three districts of Nsanje, Chikhwawa, and Balaka where responses started earlier.

- Floods have already affected some localized areas in all three regions of Malawi, but food security conditions should not be severely impacted.
