Situation overview:
- Typhoon Ketsana is not on Vietnamese soil anymore. The eye of the storm is now situated in Laos.
- Still heavy rains and wind to be expected on Wednesday
- 2 provinces have been affected: Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue, Da Nang, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Kon Tum, Dac Lac Lam Dong, Gia Lai
- river water has reached record levels in most provinces, but levels have started to reduce.
- Hue: 70% of the area was flooded
Damage:
- Number of people died: 38
- Number of people missing: 10
- Number of people injured: 81
- Houses collapsed: 5.796
- Houses damaged: 52.705
- Schools damaged: 215
National response:
- Emergency video-conference meeting was held 29 Sept evening at 8pm, between vice- prime minister and regional offices to discuss the situation and actions to be taken. Regular meetings are taking place in CCFSC.
- military deployment: 10,885 soldiers have been mobilized and more than 500 vehicles
International response:
- World Vision has distributed noodle packs to 700 families
- IFRC restocked supplies of relief items and household kits, and is moving a water treatment plant to central Vietnam to provide clean water after the storm
- after request of the Government, the UNOSAT charter has been activated
- UN PCG10 meeting was held and discussed rapid assessment, stocktaking and how best to support the Government of Vietnam
- WASH and Health cluster have been pre-activated
- The Disaster Management Working Group (DMWG) will hold a special meeting on rapid assessment Sept. 30, 10 a.m., at the NGO Resource center
(DMC)
