Philippines: NDCC update progress report re flooding in northern and eastern Samar

1. Background

The continuous rains as induced by the presence of Low Pressure Area (LPA) north of Northern Samar and south of Palawan on 8 December 2008 has caused flooding in Las Navas and Catubig of Northern Samar; and in Jipapad, Can-avid and Oras of Eastern Samar.

The weather is now fair and the water level has started to subside. People living in higher areas are now starting to go back to their respective houses.

2. Effects

Affected Population:

Northern Samar - 516 families or 3,040 persons
Eastern Samar - 5,969 families
(total) - 6,485 families

Casualties: two (2) persons were reported dead due to drowning;
