Afghanistan: Additional child dies from accidental ISAF attack

PR# 2008-453

KABUL, Afghanistan - An additional child died Sept. 1 from injuries when ISAF accidentally fired artillery on a location too close to civilians in Paktika.

The accident had previously killed three other children. The seven injured civilians were evacuated to ISAF medical facilities in the area. The ISAF medical professionals provided treatment but were unable to save the child.

"Our deepest regrets go to the victims of this tragic accident and their families," said Maj. Gen. Jeffrey Schloesser, commander of ISAF's Regional Command - East. "We continue to work with the Afghan people and government in finding a way to protect them from the enemy and prevent accidents such as this from occurring in the future."
