Cayman Islands: Mandatory evacuation

His Excellency the Governor, Mr Stuart Jack,CVO, has ordered the mandatory evacuation of all remaining residents of Little Cayman tomorrow morning (Sunday, 19 August).

This decision has been made in the public interest, considering the impending passage of Hurricane Dean, which is expected to impact the Cayman Islands from early Monday.

The Little Cayman evacuation arrangements are being coordinated between the Sister Islands Emergency Committee, and the Evacuation Sub-Committee of the National Hurricane Committee. District Commissioner Ernie Scott is also on Little Cayman, assisting in coordinating the evacuation.

To facilitate this effort, Cayman Airways has arranged additional flights. There will be six flights from Little Cayman to Cayman Brac between 6:45 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. tomorrow (Sunday, 19 August).

The one-way flights will cost US$20, but no one will be denied travel because of a lack of ability to pay.
