Lithuania provides humanitarian assistance to Georgia

Lithuania provides humanitarian assistance to Georgia, which has suffered from military actions. Commissioned by Prime Minister Gediminas Kirkilas, Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs coordinates the provision of humanitarian assistance.

On 11 August, the first consignment with humanitarian aid was sent, containing bandages of various sizes, burn treatment packages, antibiotics, antiphlogistic drugs and other pharmaceuticals, estimated at about 38,000 Litas.

On 12 August, tents with the capacity of 500 sleeping places and sleeping bags, food and blood product Albuminas were sent, estimated at about 220,000 Litas to Georgian regions that suffered from the actions of the war conflict.

On 14 August, at Georgia=92s request the third consignment of humanitarian aid was sent. It contained pharmaceuticals, bandages, sleeping bags and tents. The aid is estimated at about 200,000 Litas.

Humanitarian assistance was provided by the Fire and Rescue Department under Lithuania=92s Ministry of the Interior, Military Medical Service of Lithuania=92s Ministry of National Defence and Health Emergency Situations Centre under Lithuania=92s Ministry of Health.

Funds for Georgia were also collected 14 August through 17 August, during the Be2gether festival in Norvili=F0kës. In a specially equipped tent public was informed about Lithuania=92s policy of development cooperation and democracy promotion. During the fundraising endeavour Act2gether, Democracy and Development Assistance Fund collected over 3,500 Litas.

Overall, according to the most recent data, Lithuanian residents donated about 355,000 Litas to support the victims of military actions in Georgia (about 28,000 Litas were collected by Democracy and Development Assistance Fund and about 327,000 by Lithuanian Red Cross Society).

Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania to Georgia provided consular assistance to 96 persons.

On the whole, air planes Spartan evacuated 76 persons:

I flight: 39 persons in total =96 35 citizens of Lithuania and 4 Georgian citizens.

II flight: 35 persons, out of them 19 Lithuanian citizens, 6 Estonian citizens, 9 Georgian citizens and 1 Russian citizen.

III flight: 2 persons, both are citizens of Georgia.

According to the data of the Embassy of Lithuania in Tbilisi, 20 persons chose other ways to return to Lithuania: 10 out of them via Turkey, 5 via Armenia and 5 chose other routes.
