Afghan assisted returns to continue

ISLAMABAD, Jun 26 (APP): The UN refugee agency assisted voluntary repatriation operation from Pakistan to Afghanistan is a continuing process under the current arrangement, as agreed by the Tripartite Agreement including Pakistan, Afghanistan and UNHCR. It was announced here Thursday that rumors, that 2008 is the last year for Afghan voluntary returns, are false and baseless.Registered Afghans who wish to be assisted to return home can approach UNHCR centers in Peshawar and Quetta, says a press release here on Thursday. Registered Afghans were informed that repatriation from Pakistan is a voluntary process. According to the principles of the Tripartite Agreement, Afghan returns from Pakistan have to be gradual, voluntary and dignified in nature. Those interested can approach UNHCR's Voluntary Repatriation Centers (VRCs) in Hayatabad (North West Frontier Province) and Baleli (Balochistan) to deregister themselves and go through the iris verification test before departing for Afghanistan.
