I SITUATION OVERVIEW

A. BACKGROUND

From January 1 - 23, 2011, a total of 46 incidents occurred: 21 floodings/flashfloods, 6 landslides, 31 sea mishaps, 2 diseases outbreak and 1 storm surge due to continuous heavy rains triggered by the prevailing Northeast Monsoon over Northern and Central Luzon and the Tail-end of a Cold Front affecting Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. Twelve (12) regions were affected namely: Regions IV-A, IV-B, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X, XI, XII, CARAGA and ARMM.
