DR Congo: Ongoing Training for MONUSCO Police

Kinshasa, 23 February 2011 - Pursuant to the requirements of the UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations, all Formed Police Units (FPU) deployed in Missions must undergo in-country mobile techniques training. In line with this policy, one of the seven Bangladeshi Police Units deployed in the Democratic Republic of Congo went through a three-week training that ended on 19 February.

The training enabled the police officers to adapt their operational capacity to the reality on the ground, and gave them extra skills to fulfill their role as a security force. This includes the protection of UN personnel and equipment, and the use of legitimate force to maintain public order.

The newly-trained Bangladeshi Police Unit arrived in the DRC on 23 November 2010.
