ITC-ILO: International Women's Day

The ITC-ILO will celebrate International Women's Day with a group of African women and men participants who are actively promoting women's rights and empowerment in their own countries in the West African region.

Participants from Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, Togo, Benin and Senegal are attending a tailor-made campus course on poverty reduction and women's empowerment. It is part of a one-year project, and comes after a phase of on-line training in gender issues.

During the event, three participants will present the challenges faced by women when setting up small businesses and cooperatives in local or remote communities. They will share information on how 8 March is celebrated in their part of the world.

This year, the ILO HQ's theme for the celebration is "Making the crisis recovery work for women! - =A1La recuperación de la crisis también ha de beneficiar a la mujer! - Après la crise, les femmes au coeur de la reprise!". Moreover, the UN's 2011 theme, "Equal access to education, training and science and technology", is close to the Centre's mandate and daily work.
