HAITI

Haiti: 55 kilometres of dredging and embanking of the Artibonite River and its irrigated perimeter - ACTED has distributed 240 tons of food to 5,000 beneficiaries who have dredged/embanked more than 55 kilometres of the Artibonite River since July 15 (embanking of its primary, secondary and tertiary irrigation canals). These works enable the sanitization of the environment, the increase of rice production and the reduction of floods for the Bocozelle, Grande Saline and Desdunes populations, in the Artibonite Department. The distributed food was provided by the WFP.

CHAD

Road rehabilitation in the Dar Sila region

ACTED Chad has resumed its track rehabilitation activities in the Dar Sila region, which had originally been interrupted due to the rainy season. The first part of the project resulted in the treatment of 16 kilometers of track and the construction of 5 artifacts, out of 38.5 kilometers of track and 14 artifacts planned. These activities represent 7,679 days of work, allowing the revitalization of socio-economic life in the Dar Sila, which underwent interethnic conflicts and internal displacement of populations. This project is funded by the national paymaster of the European Development Fund and the Chadian Ministry of Economy and Planning.

PAKISTAN

ACTED chosen to represent other INGOs

ACTED was elected by other INGOs in Pakistan to serve on the Executive Committee for the Pakistan Humanitarian Forum (PHF), a consortium of the 29 largest INGOs in Pakistan. During a one year term, ACTED will represent the INGO community in coordination forums, towards donors, the government and the UN, as well as push advocacy issues. Thanks to its 15 years experience in the region, ACTED will contribute to giving a stronger voice to the humanitarian community in Pakistan.

INDONESIA

Emergency in Sumatra

In response to the September 30 tragic earthquake in West Sumatra, Indonesia, which has killed more than 770 people and buried thousands others under rubbles, the first assessment team set up by ACTED has arrived on October 2nd in the devastated area of Padang. Since then, ACTED has carried out assessments of the damages and needs of the population and set the basis for an emergency response.
