Iraq: UN envoy condemns Baghdad bombings

The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq Staffan de Mistura has strongly condemned the horrific back to back bombings in Baghdad on Thursday, 23 April and Friday, 24 April.

In a statement Friday, Mr. de Mistura described these bombings as, "Terrible crimes, targeting innocent civilians, mainly pilgrims, and many as they waited for food parcels being handed out by the Iraqi Red Crescent."

Mr. de Mistura expressed the United Nations' concern over the spike in these types of criminal attacks in recent weeks. He also expressed his confidence that the Iraqi people will remain united in their resolve in combating violence.

The SRSG extends the United Nations' sincere condolences to the bereaved families and its wishes for the full and speedy recovery for the wounded.
