Factbox - Security developments in Afghanistan, 17 Nov 2009


Nov 17 (Reuters) - Following are security developments in Afghanistan at 1430 GMT on Tuesday.

* KAPISA - Afghan officials said 14 civilians had been killed in a Taliban rocket attack on Monday in Kapisa province, northeast of Kabul, almost trebling the original toll. Another 38 civilians were wounded, Afghan army General Paikan Zamaray said. On Monday, Afghan police said five civilians had been killed and 28 wounded.

* HELMAND - Two Afghan civilians were killed by a roadside bomb in the Gereshk district of southern Helmand province, the Interior Ministry said.

KUNDUZ - Afghan and NATO-led troops killed seven insurgents, including three local commanders, in the Chardara and Khan Abad districts of northern Kunduz province on Monday, provincial police chief Abdul Razaq Yaqubi said. Two civilians who were helping police during the battle were also killed, Yaqubi said.

KUNDUZ - Taliban insurgents killed four guards in an attack on an Afghan security firm in Kunduz's Chardara district overnight, district chief Abdul Wahed Omarkhil said.
