From Nov. 15 the strong cold air moved to the Yangtze River valley after bringing heavy snowfall in north China and leaving 32 people dead. In order to deal with the possible heavy precipitation, sharp temperature drop, and the induced disasters, the central and local meteorological departments of China started up emergency response trying the best monitoring weather conditions and issuing timely early warnings to the public.
It is reported that at 9:00 a.m. on Nov. 16 China Meteorological Administration (CMA) started up Level Ⅳ emergency response for heavy snowfall demanding offices and institutes under CMA and provincial meteorological departments in Hubei, Hunan, Anhui, Jiangsu, and Guizhou to enter emergency state.
At 10:00 p.m. on Nov. 15 the Anhui Provincial Meteorological Bureau started up Level Ⅲ emergency response for heavy snow. At the same time the neighboring Hubei Provincial Meteorological Bureau started up Level Ⅳ emergency response. At 11:30 on Nov. 16 Level Ⅳ emergency response was issued by the Guizhou Provincial Meteorological Bureau. Those provincial meteorological bureaus called to pay high attention to heavy snowfall and monitoring the weather conditions as well as the temperature drop and the induced disasters. The Central Meteorological Office of CMA carried out a joint consultation with six provinces for the development of the weather conditions on Nov. 16.
It is reported that the cold air have brought blizzard in parts of Anhui, Hubei, and Jiangsu and freezing rain in parts of Guizhou. Meteorologists predict the snowfall and low temperature will end on Nov. 20. (Nov. 17)
