Somalia: Nearly 169,000 people displaced from Mogadishu since 7 May

The conflict between insurgent groups and government forces has displaced nearly 169,000 people, since the start of the latest fighting on 7 May. (25 Jun)

These 169,000 people went to:

- 48,000 to the Afgooye IDP settlements

- 51,000 within Mogadishu or to IDP settlements along the outskirts of Mogadishu

- 18,000 to Dayniile (incl. KM10-13 and Garas Baaley)

- 9,600 to Kaaraan (incl. Jabuti Gode and Galgalato)

- 9,600 to Dharkenley (incl. Kax Shiqaal)

- 5,800 to Wadajir

- Another 70,000 have gone to places further away, including:

- 23,000 to Middle Shabelle

- 16,000 to Galgaduud.

- 13,000 to Lower Shabelle (not Afgooye)

- 4,600 to Lower Juba

- 3,900 to Gedo

It should be noted that the figures above likely include some IDPs who have been displaced more than once. Major IDP settlements in Kaaraan and Kax Shiqaal (Dharkenley) district have been the scene of intense fighting and it is likely that IDPs recently displaced TO these locations have now been displaced FROM these locations. This implies that the figures for Kaaraan, Dharkenley districts may be too high. It is impossible to know for sure. (23 Jun)

These 169,000 people came from:

- 41,000 from Yaaqshiid (incl. Towfiiq, Ceel Tubba Weyne, Fagax, Jungaal)

- 21,000 from Kaaraan

- 15,000 from Wardhiigley (incl. Cali Kamiin, Stadium, Hararyaale, Buur Hindi)

- 10,000 from Dharkenley

- 8,700 from Hawl Wadaag (incl. Warshadda, 30 street, Black Sea, Bar Ubah)

- 8,300 from Shibis

- 6,900 from Hodan

- 6,200 from Boondheere

An estimated 33,000 people have been displaced from Mogadishu since Friday 19, June. They came mainly from Kaaran, Yaaqshiid, and Shibis districts. (23 Jun)
