PRCS takes lead to open another IDPs camp

The importunate influx of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from the conflict areas where displaced people feel more insecure and perturbed, demands more IDPs camps from the management. Keeping in view this magnitude of the situation, the PRCS has extended its IDPs camps to support to almost 400,000 IDPs, both in camp and outside camps with support of Movement Partners mainly International Committee of Red Cross, and National Societies. Now the PRCS is running and managing Nine IDPs camps. The detail of these camps may be presented in the below tabulated description and map reading:

Relief

The PRCS-ICRC has distributed food (cooked and dry rations) to over 18,755 families since the IDP operation started in August last year. The cooked food is distributed three times a day. Dry food rations which are good for one month consist of pulses, rice, flour, cooking oil, sugar, salt, black tea, beans along with non food and other necessities of life to 9,836 families. The NFI kits include kitchen sets, hygiene kits, blankets, mosquito nets, lamp hurricanes and other basic items.

Health and Care

At present, the PRCS has eight health teams as well as many volunteers working in the camps. The health teams have treated above 73,322 patients so far in all camps along with health awareness session conducted in the camps. The most common diseases being faced by the IDPs are heat stroke, malaria, diarrhoea, acute respiratory infection (ARI) and scabies.

Water and Sanitation (WATSAN)

In all of the camps, the PRCS has installed above 785 Latries, 289 showers and 19 Water Bladders WATSAN facilities in its IDPs camps.Water bladders of different capacities are fully functioning for the provision of safe drinking water. Special care has been taken in construction of latrines and showers so as to provide maximum privacy and ease.

Psychosocial Support Programme (PSP)

The PRCS is providing psychosocial support to the IDPs to help them recover from their traumatic experience and enable them to cope with the current situation. Total number of PSP beneficiaries so far is 3,266. The psychosocial team is organizing sports competitions among IDPs which include cricket, football and badminton. The main PSP activities being carried out by the team are:

- Establishment of community centres

- Establishment of mosques

- Separate debriefing sessions with the males and females

- Establishment of safe areas and procurement and distribution of toys, sports goods, sweets, basic stationery items and other items for children.

- Different children activities being done in Community Model School.

- Involving of community in planning and executing sports tournaments.

- Hygiene awareness sessions regularly conducted

- Extremely Vulnerable Individuals (EVI) assessments

- Quran khwani at male and females community centres and vocational training being given.

- Working with health teams to help patients

Youth and Volunteers

Total of 320 volunteers have been involved in relief operations for IDPs since May 2009. Out of these, about 69 volunteers are involved in fund raising activity at NHQ and PHQs.

Restoring Family Links (RFL) – Tracing

Family Links Mobile phone Service (FLMS) provided to the IDPs during the RFL assessment timeframe.
