Eritrea: Gash-Barka - Inhabitants of Kona getting access to potable water supply and education

Barentu, 24 November 2009 - The inhabitants of Kona administrative area, Gash-Barka region, are getting reliable access to potable water supply and education, according to Mr. Abdalla Shilu, Administrator of the area.

He explained that previously the local inhabitants used to travel for more than 2 hours to fetch water from Sona that was not up to standard. At present, however, they have become beneficiaries of clean water as a result of the implementation of solar energy-generated potable water supply project, he added.

Mr. Abdalla further indicated that the newly constructed 2 micro-dams in the administrative area are playing major role in providing potable water supply to the local inhabitants along with their cattle.

Also in line with endeavors to expand equitable educational opportunities across the nation, additional classrooms are being constructed in Sainor Elementary School which is nearing finalization, according to reports.

Kona administrative area is located 12 Km. South-east of Barentu.
