Angola: Hallo Trust removes landmines


Kuito – About seven fields were cleared of landmines and explosive devices in central Bie, during the third quarter of this year by the British Non Government Organization, The Hallo Trust.

While assessing on Monday in Kuito city, the activities carried out by the NGO, its operation chief, João Baptista, underlined that were demined camps in the municipalities of Kunhinga, Katabola and Andulo.

He added that the clearing of about 106,815 square meters and another 282 kilometres of road is now enabling a free circulation of people and goods as well as the fomenting of farming.

João Baptista said that there were removed 15 anti-tank and 207 anti-personnel landmines and 484 un-detonated explosive devices.

He said that 334 people have been sensitised on the danger of landmines as well as the care to have with explosive devices.

The Hallo Trust has 13 manual brigades comprising 7 sappers each and a demining mechanic team.

João Baptista told also that the Hallo Trust is currently clearing of eight fields with landmines in the municipalities of Kuito, Andulo, Kunhinga, Katobola and Kuemba.
