Doha talks on Darfur scheduled for October ending

The Government of Sudan has received an official notice on the resumption of the Doha talks on Darfur. The talks will bring together armed groups to sit with the government and mediators at the end of this month in Qatar. The Presidential Advisor, Ghazi Salaheddin said the government delegation would participate in the meeting.

The Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) says it had received invitation to the talks. However, JEM's Legislative Assembly Speaker, Tahir Al Faki says his movement would only take part if no other Darfurian armed group is allowed to participate.

The Doha meeting whcih has seen several postponments is expected to bring an end to the war in Sudan's Darfur region. President Omar Al Bashir had earlier stated that the upcoming meeting would be the last negotiation to end the Darfur conflict.

As at last month, government troops were still fighting with a rebel faction belonging to Abdul Wahid. The UN says the renewed violence escalated the already diplorable humanitarian situation.
