The Disease Early Warning System/Surveillance (DEWS) system of Ministry of Public Health has picked cholera (Acute Watery Diarrhea) reports from 10 provinces of the country including Kabul.
Afghan Public Health Institute of MoPH has so far recorded 673 cases countrywide. All outbreaks are under control and no active one is reported as of today September 13. The affected provinces are Kandahar, Samangan, Ghor, Nangarhar, Parwan, Nooristan, Khost, Baghlan, Badakshan and Kabul.
Ministry of Public Health has the capacity to detect and confirm the causative agent, a bacterium called vibrio cholera in the country. MoPH has also appointed experienced staff and facilitated adequate amount of medicines in all its health facilities to prevent, keep under control and treat the incidences.
We not only ask relevant ministries i.e. Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MoRRD), Ministry of Education (MoE), Ministry of Hajj and Awqaf (MoHA), Ministry of Interior Affairs (MoIA) and Ministry of Defense (MoD) to share their efforts in the prevention of disease, but also advise our people to use safe drinking water, wash their hands before meal and after defecation to avoid contracting the disease. They are also advised to observe personal and environmental hygiene.
