Sudan: More deaths and destruction of southlands of houses in Khartoum's rain

The death toll and loss of properties due to Khartoum's heavy rains and flooding has increased in the last few days.

While, five brothers died following a house collapse in Omdurman, the authorities have confirmed that over twenty thousand (20,000) houses have been destroyed by the rains.

The Khartoum State Ministry of Education has also extended the closure of schools for another week.

However, the State Minister of Humanitarian Affairs Abd Al-Bagi Al-Jailani has denied the allegations that the humanitarian situation in Khartoum State has reached catastrophic levels.

In an interview with Miraya FM, Al-Jailani said that his ministry is working with UN agencies to provide assistance for the affected masses.

He pointed out that it is now necessary to review the Khartoum State's infrastructure.

Earlier, the Sudanese Community for the Red Crescent has warned in press statements that the capital might face a catastrophe if humanitarian aids are not delivered in the soonest time possible.
