Civil Affairs Ministry sends more relief supplies to quake-hit Yunnan


BEIJING, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- China's Ministry of Civil Affairs on Tuesday sent 30,000 cotton-padded quilts and 30,000 cotton-padded clothes to quake-affected people in southwest Yunnan Province.

An earthquake measuring five on the Richter scale jolted Yunnan's west part on Monday morning, affecting 302,000 people, of whom 31 were injured and 61,000 relocated.

The ministry has sent 5,000 tents to the quake area to help affected people. Yunnan provincial government allocated 4.5 million yuan of relief funds. The provincial civil affairs bureau and the local authorities in affected areas delivered a total of 2,500 tents, 5,000 cotton-padded quilts and five tonnes of rice to quake victims.

The quake flattened 579 houses and damaged another 17,400.
