Eritrea: 553 families in Adi-Kieh sub-zone relocate to fertile area in Gash-Barka region

Adi-Keih, 3 July 2009 - A total of 553 families that used to live in 20 administrative areas of Adi-Keih sub-zone have been voluntarily relocated to fertile plains in Tessenei sub-zone, Gash-Barka region, for better agricultural practice.

The head of administration and finance in Adi-Keih sub-zone, Mr. Mehari Debessai, indicated that the families that used to live in the eastern escarpment of the sub-zone which was not suitable for farming have been repeatedly requesting to be relocated to fertile areas where they can improve their standard of living.

He further stated that the Government has made the necessary preparation for the relocation of the families, besides fulfilling transport service and basic needs.

The families expressed satisfaction with the move and asserted that they would do their level best to boost agricultural production, and thus become self-supporting.

Radio Sawa making due contribution in educating and informing youths

Sawa, 3 July 2009 - Radio Sawa is making due contribution in entertaining, educating and informing youths, according to Maj. Mehreteab Kidane, Staff officer of agitation and information center in Sawa.

He said that initially the radio's broadcast was only confined to musical and entertaining programs but at present 23% of its program is focusing on historical, cultural, educational, agitation and political programs.

Maj. Mehreteab further pointed out that thanks to the tasks undertaken to upgrade and expand the coverage of the radio transmission, it has now reached Forto-Sawa sub-zone and some parts of Agordat, Tessenei and Dige sub-zones. Stating that preparations are underway to begin broadcasting regular programs in Arabic and Tigre languages, he indicated that vigorous endeavors are being made to seek ways of involving experienced journalists in the programs of Radio Sawa. He also outlined the tasks being undertaken to strengthen the technical and professional aspects of the radio.
