15 injured in grenade attack in Indian Kashmir

Srinagar, Kashmir (dpa) At least 15 people were injured, three critically, when a suspected secessionist militant lobbed a grenade at a team of security personnel in India-administered Kashmir on Monday, officials said.

According to police, the attack took place at a bus-stand in the Doda town, located 110 kilometres north-east of summer capital Jammu.

"A patrol party of the Central Reserve Police Force was targeted. Twelve civilians, mostly commuters and three CRPF personnel, were injured in the incident," a policeman said requesting anonymity.

Three civilians sustained serious injuries in the attack and were being treated at a local hospital.

Secessionist militants have been fighting Indian rule in the Himalayan state since the 1980s.

According to India's Home Ministry, more than 40,000 people were killed in the state between 1990 and 2006. This includes more than 13,000 civilians and 4,000 security forces personnel. dpa is sk jh
