Factbox - Security developments in Iraq, 05 Nov 2009


Nov 5 (Reuters) - Following are security developments in Iraq at 2100 GMT on Thursday.

* Denotes new or updated item

* RAMADI - A bomb attached to a car belonging to a police officer exploded with no casualties in Ramadi, 100 km (60 miles) west of Baghdad. A second bomb exploded when people were trying to extinguish the fire, killing at least one civilian and wounding three others, police said.

* HILLA - A bomb exploded in a cafe in the centre of Hilla, 100 km (60 miles) south of Baghdad, wounding 15 people, police said.

MOSUL - A roadside bomb killed a police officer and wounded three others when it struck a police patrol in western Mosul, 390 km (240 miles) north of Baghdad, police said.

KIRKUK - Kurdish security forces backed by U.S. forces killed a kidnapper and arrested two others in a raid that freed three child hostages in central Kirkuk, 250 km (155 miles) north of Baghdad, police said.
