Summary of Cyclonic Storm "Bijli"

Due to the cyclonic storm "Bijli", 24 upazilas, 76 unions, 6600 families and 92558 people of Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Noakhali and Bhola are affected. Total of 5 (five ) people was reported dead.

15000 people in Laxmipur, 3000 in Bagerhat, 7000 in Pirojpur and 10000 in Barguna took place in shelters and they all already returned to their own homes. No damage reported from these districts..

There are no remarkable damages/losses known so far in other coastal districts of Khulna, Satkhira, Jhalokhati, Patuakhali, Barisal, Feni and Comilla.

SITUATION IN COASTAL DISTRICTS

Chittagong: The areas of Banshkhali, Anowara, Sitakundo, Mirershwarai, Sandip, Patia, Boalkhali, Satkania, Chandnaish and City Corporation of Chittagong districts are affected. 32 Union Parishad/Word, 33 sq. km areas, 14408 persons, 2915 families, 323 hector crops partially, 448 households fully, 2117 partially, 121 persons injured and 22 educational institution have been damaged. Mobarak Khatun (age 65 years) died as she was coming to the Bashkhali Upazila cyclone shelter. 115500 peoples took shelter and returned to their home. Upazila administration got GR - Rice and GR - Cash for distribution among victims.

Cox's Bazar: Sadar, Ramu, Chokoria, Pekua, Moheshkhali and Kutubdia upazila of Cox's bazaar have been affected. The loss of Power Development Board is equivalent to BDT 200000. Besides 30 boats/trawlers, 416 acres of betel leaf grounds, 2552 acres of salt field reported damaged.

Noakhali: One man died in Burir char of Hatia upazial due to thunder storm. 47625 persons took shelters and already left cyclone shelters.

Bhola: Due to early warning regarding "Bijli" 45,899 people took shelter and they have already returned to there homes. According to primary damage report 214 earthen houses totally, 186earthen houses partially, 25 betel-leaf grounds, 320 acres crops, 15 educational institutions and 57 boats damaged in Charfassion, Lalmohon, Tojumuddin and Monpura upazila.
