WFP hunger hotspots: Ethiopia - 19 Mar 2009

The regional climate outlook for the March-May rainfall season indicates an increased likelihood of below normal rainfall in eastern parts of the Horn of Africa and an increased likelihood of normal to above normal rainfall in western parts. The CO is concerned about the late start of the Belg rains in the Southern Nations, eastern parts of Amhara, Oromiya and southern parts of Tigray. Unless rains improve in the coming weeks this could potentially be the worst Belg season in the past four years. WFP will continue to closely monitor the situation.
