IDPs in the DRC

Since October 2007, with the official adoption of the camp coordination and management mechanism in North Kivu, UNHCR has taken over the overall coordination of IDP sites. A new strategy suggested under UNHCR's impulsion was adopted by the CCCM working group and approved by the CPIA in June 2009. IDP assistance includes IDP registration/profiling, distribution of NFIs (blankets, plastic sheets, jerry cans, soap, firewood) and shelter assistance.

Protection monitoring is also conducted to identify human rights abuses, assess the conditions in the potential return areas including prevention of SGBV, access to housing, land ,property and personal documentation.
