UNAMID continues to monitor situation of arrested IDP leaders

The African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) today said it will continue to deliberate with Government authorities in North Darfur to ensure that judicial processes are correctly followed with regards to the continued detention of a number of leaders of the Abu Shouk and El Salaam internally displaced persons (IDP) camps in El Fasher.

The IDPs were arrested and detained by the Government of Sudan police in August this year on suspicion of their involvement in the murder of an umda and his wife in Abu Shouk camp in July.

UNAMID remains concerned about the situation and, in that light, has requested a meeting with Government officials to discuss the ongoing detention of the suspects.
