Pakistan: Humanitarian Assistance for Internally Displaced People Emergency Appeal No. MDRPK003 (Revised)

This Revised Emergency Appeal revises the plan of action and budget for this operation to CHF 3,635,713 (USD 3.58 million or EUR 2.4 million) to support the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) in assisting 42,000 people (6,000 families) until 31 March 2010.

Appeal history:

- A Revised Emergency Appeal was launched on 6 July 2009 for CHF 7,974,802 to assist 91,000 displaced people (13,000 families) for seven months.

- This Emergency Appeal was launched on 4 June 2009 for CHF 23.9 million for seven months to assist 140,000 people (20,000 families).

Summary:

The plan of action for this operation has been revised and approved by the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS). Originally early recovery activities were included in this emergency appeal. However, these activities are now being implemented by the PRCS with the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC). The emergency appeal plan and budget have therefore been adjusted to reflect this change of plan.

The emergency phase activities in Haraza division (North West Frontier Province/NWFP) and Attock district (Punjab) have been completed. Non-food items have been distributed to more than 7,700 families in Hazara division (NWFP) and Attock district (Punjab). More than 20,000 patients have received health and care with more than 11,000 displaced people receiving health education. Psychosocial support has been provided to 6,222 displaced people in Mansehra and Haripur and 4,951 pyschosocial support programme kits have been distributed by the psychosocial support and relief teams. The PRCS water and sanitation team has completed 17 water supply schemes, 82 latrines, 84 washrooms and 34 washing pads in both Haripur and Mansehra. Also, in Haripur and Mansehra 131 participatory hygiene and sanitation training (PHAST) sessions have been conducted for 1,590 beneficiaries.
