Highlights
- The overall security situation in Greater Darfur was relatively calm, but unpredictable.
- EWARN Evaluation mission consisting of teams from WHO/CDC/FMOH) have completed their mission in West Darfur and North Darfur States by visiting several IDP Camp sentinel sites and attending meetings with different partners working on EWARN including DG/SMOH/EHA focal person/ Epidemiological Department, head of laboratory, health information and data collection department in both the states.The team is in South Darfur to complet the above task there by the end of this week.
- In North Darfur ECHO mission visited Millet Rural hospital for evaluation of the support to Mellit hospital this will be followed by a visit to Kabkabiya hospital on November 2 2009.
- In South Darfur WHO together with MoH at state and federal level and Johanniter International had undertook a field mission to investigate the notified increase in whooping cough cases by Johanniter in Edalfursan locality; the mission visited the villages and checked the cases, EPI records, collected samples from the ill patients. The symptoms and signs of the patients varied between acute cases(less than two weeks) and chronic cases (more that two months). Apparently the routine coverage is very low or absent in some villages for the past five years!! The samples have been sent the national laboratory for confirmation.
- HE president of Republic of Sudan inaugurated re-opening of Damazine civil hospital after comprehensive rehabilitation.
- The polio campaign has been conducted from 27-29th October in Greater Darfur, East Sudan, Blue Nile, South Kordafan with the collaboration of WHO,UNICEF,SMOH , detail results will be shared soon.
Area of concern :
- In South Darfur low vaccine coverage in South East Edalfursan is a major concern that will be discussed with partners
- Lack of Anti-rabies vaccine in South Darfur and the local market in Khartoum
