Key overall developments
- In a press release issued on 6th November 2009, UNICEF announced that the Dutch Government has given US$23.5 million to UNICEF Sudan, which will be used to provide safe water and improved sanitation for hundreds of thousands of people across the country.
- A tripartite mechanism delegation comprising the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Arab League and Al Maktoum Charity Foundation concluded a one day visit to North Darfur, where they inspected the Baraka model village for voluntary repatriation and Kurma and Taweela villages. The visit affirmed pledges taken by the Arab League and Al Maktoum Foundation to the people in Darfur. During the visit Al Maktoum Foundation representative Muhamed bin Gheneem, announced a donation from Al Sheikh Hamed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to establish three service centres.
- The Sudanese Government's Water and Environmental Sanitation Department (WES) in the north of the country won a top prize in the pan-African competition for hygiene and sanitation.
