Sudan: Khalil Ibrahim calls for cancellation of upcoming elections

Chairman of the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM), Khalil Ibrahim, called for the cancellation of the upcoming general elections. Speaking to Miraya FM, Ibrahim said that with the current government in power, the elections will be illegitimate. 'We are not calling for a delay, but rather urge all citizens in Darfur, Kordofan and countrywide to boycott the elections', Khalil Ibrahim told Miraya FM. He went on to say 'There is neither freedom nor democracy, all the laws are unjust and the country has become a police state, that's why we strongly call for a boycott of the elections'. He said all members of his movement and its supporters will boycott the elections. Meanwhile, the International Mediation Committee on Darfur called for rescheduling the negotiations between the Sudanese government and the Darfur factions to the nineteenth of the current month.
