(CLOSED) Project Manager

Closing date: 25 Jan 2010 -- (CLOSED)
Location: Sudan (the)

PROJECT MANAGER – SOUTH SUDAN

£26,586 - £29,052 per annum (plus £2,000 per annum hardship allowance, accommodation and per diem)

At MAG (Mines Advisory Group), we deliver practical and positive solutions that assist the process of peace and stability in both conflict and former conflict countries. During the past 20 years we have safely found, removed and destroyed millions of landmines, small and large bombs, missiles and other tools of armed conflict. By freeing up millions of acres of land we are the precursor to the development and economic growth of conflict-affected countries throughout the Middle East, South East Asia, Africa and Eastern Europe.

MAG's programme in Sudan has grown rapidly into our largest programme globally. MAG Sudan is undertaking a wide range of mine action initiatives covering three main operational areas in North Sudan, including Khartoum, Kassala and the Blue Nile region and three areas in the South, Yei, Kapoeta and Juba.

Reporting to the Country Programme Manager, the postholder will provide effective leadership and management to develop and implement plans aimed at maximizing MAG’s effectiveness in terms of responding to the mine / UXO / SALW problem in South Sudan. You will be responsible for project design, implementation and management, the management of grants and budgets, supporting and capacity building national staff, overseeing logistical requirements and liaising with new and existing donors, government agencies, UN coordinating bodies and international and national NGOs. You will contribute to in-country strategic and business planning and constantly be seeking opportunities to develop and improve MAG’s work.

You will need experience of working overseas in international aid or development in a similar role including expertise in programme and project design, development, management, monitoring and evaluation. You will also need experience of managing a staff team and managing finances. You should have the ability to work within complicated national and internal political frameworks and experience of building and developing management systems to improve programme accountability. Regional experience would be a distinct advantage.

Because of the political situation in Sudan, you also need to be able to demonstrate an awareness of personal security, cultural sensitivities and a diplomatic manner.

The salary for this position is £26,586 - £29,052 per annum, plus accommodation, flights and per diem.
