(CLOSED) Guidelines Project Intern

Shelter Centre is a non-governmental organisation registered in Switzerland which supports the sector of humanitarian operations that responds to the transitional settlement and reconstruction needs of populations affected by conflicts and natural disasters, from the emergency phase until durable solutions are reached.
Closing date: 15 Dec 2009 -- (CLOSED)
Location: Switzerland - Geneva

Contract duration: Three months with possibility of extension available ASAP, Paid internship

Context and Background:

Shelter Centre is in the process of completing technical guidelines concerning refugee camps on behalf of the United Nations.

Role of the Intern: Working under the project manager, the intern will assist in the desktop publication and timely completion of the guidelines.

Detailed tasks will include:

- Working on the layout and presentation of the guidelines
- Assisting in the editing and desktop publishing
- Assisting the publications team in ensuring graphic design consistency with previous UN publications
- Supporting the development of publications, consultation meetings and events related to these guidelines.

Shelter Centre is a small office whose work includes the drafting and evaluation of guidelines, the development of policy, equipment, coordination tools and training, and the organisation and facilitation of meetings, conferences and workshops including events with UN departments and the Red Cross Red Crescent movement. The Intern can expect to spend a proportion of his or her time working on the duties supporting these functions.

Experience:

- University degree or equivalent
- Excellent writing and editing skills
- Proven desktop publishing (experience in Adobe Indesign and Illustrator)
- Strong communication skills
- Excellent level of English
- Proven ability to work flexibly in a small, innovative and dynamic team
- Technical expertise in the shelter sector preferable but not required.
