(CLOSED) Capacity Building Manager

Nonviolent Peaceforce (NP)
Nonviolent Peaceforce is an international, nonpartisan unarmed civilian peacekeeping organization comprising trained civilians from around the globe. In partnership with local civil society groups, Nonviolent Peaceforce applies proven nonviolent strategies to deter violence, protect human rights, and help broaden the space for local peacemakers to carry out their work through nonviolent ways and means.

Location: Philippines (the) - Cotabato City

In the Philippines, Nonviolent Peaceforce works in Central and Western Mindanao to support local civil society organisations and other institutions to help consolidate the peace process at the grassroots level. Its main office is located in Cotabato City, with a strategic liaison office in Manila. NP internationally has offices in Belgium, USA, India and Ecuador.

Purpose:

The Capacity Building Manager (CBM) will provide professional development, direction and support to staff in the Main Office and program teams in the field sites. The CBM is expected to visit the field sites from time to time. The CBM reports to the Deputy Country Director (DCD).

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct capacity building needs assessment of the NP Philippine (NPP) staff every year.
  • Develop a capacity building plan for NPP every year.
  • Liaise with the program management team and other departments in NPP around capacity building needs, monitoring and follow-up.
  • Facilitate continued learning and development of staff in the Main/liaison offices and field sites to develop their personal professional capacity to better support NP’s work.
  • Provide support to trainings and other capacity building activities of NPP offices/sites.
  • Develop and/or adapt training modules based on relevant sources including NP experience, best practices, and latest data.
  • Liaise with partners, resource institutions and other organizations to support the capacity building needs of NP.
  • Develop, prepare and facilitate the In-Country Training for newly arrived International Civilian Peacekeepers (ICPs), including development of a curriculum, identification of and contracting with resource people.
  • Assist in the orientation/induction of new staff.
  • Support NPs’ Core Mission Preparedness Trainings and other trainings at the request of the international NP Capacity Building Department.
  • Assist in monitoring and evaluating capacity building activities of NP.
  • Contribute to proposal writing in response to the capacity building needs of the staff.
  • Attend and participate in performance management meetings, NP staff meetings and other meetings as requested by management.

Qualifications and skills:

Essential:
  • Proven knowledge and experience of adult education.
  • Expertise and experience in giving conflict resolution trainings.
  • Adequate knowledge and understanding of the Philippine situation especially the Mindanao context and community structures.
  • Ability to relate to and communicate with diverse populations and stakeholders, including vulnerable populations in conflict-affected areas; government representatives and officials; security forces; and local, national and international organizations.
  • Experience working in an international, multi-cultural environment.
  • Excellent networking, communication and reporting skills.
  • Excellent spoken and written English skills.
  • Good computer skills, including use of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Powerpoint, E-mail, and basic Excel Spreadsheets.
  • Commitment to NP’s nonpartisan approach.
  • Team player and flexible work schedule.

Preferred:
  • At least 3 years work experience in responsible positions.
  • BA or MA in a relevant field.
  • Experience of peace and/or human rights work.
  • Knowledge of local languages, especially Tagalog.

SALARY AND BENEFITS

The salary offered is 70000-75,000 Philippine Pesos per month plus accident, life and health insurance, and for national staff a 13th month salary and social security benefits. Internationals receive an additional off-shore component of Euro 1,000 per month plus other benefits.

This is a full-time position based in Cotabato City. The initial contract is for 2 years with a 6-month probationary period.
