Located in Johannesburg (South Africa), Nairobi (Kenya) or Bangkok (Thailand)

Reporting to the International Director – Organizational and Governance Development, the Global Security Advisor will be expected to support ActionAid International by providing technical leadership in international security management and assist country offices with the implementation of sound security practices into the organization’s operations, so as to enhance the safety and security of our staff, assets and programs and to minimize operational risk to ActionAid International. This will be achieved through the following key performance areas:

1.Safety and Security Policy and Strategic development
2.Operational Leadership and Technical Advice to regional and country leadership teams
3.Management reporting on safety and security risks to International Directors and Board
4.Capacity building of regional and country safety networks and focal persons
5.Build a shared understanding of and culture of continuous learning amongst key stakeholders
6.Safety standards implementation and compliance auditing especially in high risk countries
7.External Relations with global security networks to ensure best practices and strategies.

The desired candidate will have a minimum of 5 years experience in a similar capacity with an INGO; Knowledge of and experience in handling security situations in Africa, Asia Latin America and Europe; A relevant university degree or Specialist qualification with a good understanding of emergency and development issues is essential; Good written and oral communication skills, with good interpersonal skills and sensitivity within a multicultural environment; Relevant training expertise; the ability to work in a large, decentralized and diverse organization. Multilingual skills would be an added advantage. Ability to influence on safety and security matters is essential.

This post will require extensive travel at relatively short notice into insecure environments, particularly Africa and Asia.
