(CLOSED) Care & Treatment Advisor

Location: Botswana - Gaborone

The Care & Treatment Advisor will independently provide support services to satisfy the overall operational objectives of organization. The Care and Treatment Advisor serves as the overall advisor of the Care and Treatment Section of the AIDS Program in Botswana.

This position coordinates work activities and provides technical assistance to assigned FSN staff within the Care and Treatment Section and provides expert technical assistance to external partners that include colleagues, collaborating institutions that include US and local universities, International NGOs, and the Ministry of Health.

The Care and Treatment Advisor will technically advise the program activities related to care and treatment of HIV, STI and related infections, blood safety, and safe injections that are supported by the Organization in collaboration with the Government of Botswana and other partner agencies.

The employee will be involved with planning, design, implementation and monitoring and evaluation of Care and Treatment related activities supported by the Organization.

Minimum Qualifications:

- Medical Doctor with previous Care & Treatment experience
- Frequent local Travel will be required
- US Citizen or Foreign Nationals. Local Botswana Citizens are not eligible.
- Substantial experience providing technical assistance for care and treatment activities, and directly implementing care and treatment activities, for large, complex public health programs.
- Must be fluent in English. Written & Oral.
- Previous international experience with USG in Public Health.
- Ability to work independently; ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines; ability to provide guidance and direction; and ability to adapt to rapidly changing needs.
- Post graduate training in infectious diseases, especially virology
- At least three years of experience in laboratory diagnosis of HIV
- At least three years experience in laboratory management
- Fluency in English and French, written and spoken
- Experience in providing training and technical assistance to public health laboratories in Africa
- Certification in a particular program or field of study Virology
