(CLOSED) Emergency Specialist (Preparedness and Response)

Location: Chad - N'Djamena

If you are a passionate and committed professional and want to make a lasting difference for children, the world's leading children's rights organization would like to hear from you. UNICEF seeks a Emergency Specialist (Preparedness and Response), L-3 in its Office in N’Djamena, Chad.

Purpose of the post:

Under the general supervision of the UNICEF Representative, the incumbent will be responsible for monitoring of the emergency situations and issues related to disaster management; frequently updating the Country Office EPRP; identification, formulation of project/donor proposals; follow up on Humanitarian Action (HA) and emergency/early recovery programmes implementation, including logistics; evaluation of Humanitarian Action and emergency programmes. The incumbent will be assisting the Country Office in the emergency preparedness programmes.

Your profile:

- Advanced University degree in Social Science, Public Health, International Relations, Economics. Post-graduate certified education in EPR, Disaster Management, emergency coordination a plus.
- Five years of progressively responsible experience in programme formulation, planning, management and evaluation; some of which in emergency operations. Management of full-blown emergencies and Humanitarian Action programmes. Logistics experience. Training experience. Experience in the UN will be an asset.
- Current knowledge of the latest developments and technology in the field of EPR, disaster management and response.
- Good management and supervisory skills as well as ability to conduct training.
- Leadership, networking and teamwork abilities.
- Versatility, judgement, maturity, excellent self-steering attitude , ability to work in a team; solid technical/computer knowledge; cope under stressful and difficult conditions, and political/cultural sensitivity.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-cultural environment and establish harmonious and effective working relationships both within and outside the organization.
- Information technology updated skills, including GPS and disaster management related technology, internet navigation, various office applications.
- Fluency in French. Good working knowledge of English. Knowledge of Arabic an asset.
