(CLOSED) Technical Operations Manager

£58,500 - £62,322 per annum
(plus accommodation, flights, insurance and per diem)

As the scale of the conventional weapons problem has become apparent across the world, MAG has been increasingly involved in addressing the threat posed by these items, through its Conventional Weapons Management and Disposal (CWMD) activities. These cover direct clearance activities and training as well as Physical Security and Stockpile Management. MAG launched a nationwide CWMD project in Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) in 2006 and currently has authorization to destroy surplus military stock in all Military Regions.

We are currently looking to recruit an experienced technical professional to manage and develop MAG’s CWMD project in DRC. You will lead, oversee and safely manage all aspects of CWMD projects in country. Working closely with the County Programme Manager, you will provide technical input into proposals and reports, liaise with donors, the military and the UN and continue to build good relationships with government agencies.

As a member of the Senior Management Team you will be expected to contribute to developing the country programme strategy, plans, proposals and budgets with regards to technical training and operations in line with MAG’s mission and mandate. You will need to be able to think strategically and make and implement operational decisions along with the CPM to enable and progress MAG’s work in a complex context.

The post holder will be managing projects and staff across geographically diverse sites and therefore need to be strong team player with excellent people management and team building skills. A patient, tactful and diplomatic approach will be required in this challenging environment particularly when working with the military authorities.

This is an excellent opportunity to work in a programme that is experiencing a period of significant growth. This post is based in Kinshasa, but will involve travel to operational areas in the provinces of Equateur, Kasai Occidentale, Kasai Orientale, Maniema and Katanga, with possible work in the Kivus as well.

Fluency in French is essential for this role.
