Location: Ethiopia - Addis Ababa
The AVP and Area Director (AD) is a senior leadership position, responsible for long-range strategic planning, overall programmatic direction, growth, and managerial oversight of all programs and operations in Africa, The AD works with headquarters and field staff to contribute to shaping the overall strategic direction of the Agency and ensures alignment of Area programs with the that strategic direction. SC US is part of a global Alliance and he/she supervises Country Directors in countries that SCUS line manages and holds them accountable for adherence to all Agency programmatic and administrative policies, including sponsorship management, where applicable. In countries where SCUS does not have line management responsibility but provides resources, the AD ensures SCUS provides high quality technical assistance and grows our financial support. He/she will also oversee the transition of SCUS line-managed country offices in Africa to the Alliance Unified International Programs Unit (IPU). The position involves up to 35% travel.
Requirements:
Minimum of a Master’s degree or equivalent in an area related to the work of Save the Children. Minimum of fifteen years experience working in a management capacity in a development/humanitarian context, 10 years of which must have been in senior management positions. Applicants must have strong partnering skills and Africa experience . plus a proven track record in representation with high levels of government and global partners; large scale program management; program implementation and fundraising. Demonstrated experience in financial/budget and contract/grant management control. Strong team building, leadership, and staff management skills; highly skilled in change or transition management. Previous experience working with public funding mechanisms, both grants and contracts, from donors such as USAID, DFID, UN, and EU, as well as private funding mechanisms such as sponsorship and foundations. Knowledge of strategic planning process and program development cycle; needs assessment, baseline, program design, results framework, and monitoring and evaluation. Skilled in Microsoft Office applications and basic computerized communication systems.
