Location: Nepal
Land O’Lakes is receiving applications for LIVESTOCK PRODUCTION SPECIALISTS for an anticipated multi-year economic growth project in Nepal. These positions will be responsible for the provision of technical services for dairy and other husbandry activities in an entrepreneurial and value chain approach, and for ensuring that best science practices are applied to investments.
Required Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in agriculture, animal science or agricultural economics.
- Technical expertise in animal husbandry sector including dairy and cattle production, and tracked expertise in value-chains. Experience in yak and buffalo meat and dairy production preferred.
- Minimum of seven years of professional experience in animal science, agriculture, or related experience.
- Extensive knowledge and experience in dairy value chain strengthening, dairy production methods, improved inputs, genetics, feed formulation, good agricultural practices (GAP).
- Experience with institutional development of cooperatives and producer groups, including forming associations and cooperatives and leading them to becoming fully-functioning, viable organizations that are able to provide services to their members.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to dialogue, network, and negotiate with professional colleagues, donor agencies, international institutions, research institutions, industry stakeholders and development partners.
- Demonstrated ability to transfer technical knowledge and skills to colleagues, partners and local organizations in developing countries.
- Demonstrated project management skills and experience in working within a complex multi-ethnic environment, with ability to work independently, take initiative, and use good judgment.
- Demonstrated ability to work as an effective team member and to lead a team to achieve results in a complex and fast-paced environment.
- Strong oral and written communication skills; strong facilitation and negotiating skills.
- Demonstrated proficiency in PC computer skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in managing U.S. government grants, agreements and/or contracts.
- Previous experience in preparing and monitoring agricultural projects. Previous evaluation experience desirable.
- Experienced in Nepali language reading, writing, speaking.
- Experience living and working in South Asia; experience in Nepal highly desirable.
