The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF) creates a future of hope for children and families worldwide by aiming and working to eradicate paediatric AIDS through research, advocacy, and programme implementation. In Zimbabwe EGPAF supports the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare (MoHCW) on the Prevention of Mother-To-Child Transmission (PMTCT) and Paediatric HIV/AIDS, treatment, care and support. EGPAF is funded by the United States Agency for International Development, the UK Department for International Development and other private donors.

Job Summary

EGPAF is seeking a PMTCT Technical Officer in Harare to provide in-country PMTCT technical support to EGPAF, Family AIDS Initiative (FAI) partners and the national AIDS & TB programme. The Officer will work closely with the technical teams and contribute to the strengthening of an integrated PMTCT programme. The incumbent will report to the EGPAF Technical Director.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Provide technical support to the FAI partners and the AIDS & TB unit to enable rapid expansion of the PMTCT programme.
- Collaborate with the technical team in-country to ensure integration between PMTCT and care and treatment activities within a family centered continuum of care framework. Carry out site support and assessment visits with implementing partners and the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare
- Participate and facilitate (where necessary) at national PMTCT workshops such as technical policy development and programme review and planning workshops.
- Provide technical support into operational research pieces implemented by FAI partners and support partners to carry out research activities including documentation.
- Participate in the monitoring and evaluation of the PMTCT programme and support both internal and external programme assessments and evaluations.
- Work closely with the technical team in developing annual work plans, compiling reports, developing proposals and disseminating findings within the FAI consortium.
- Support the preparation of budgets for programme supported activities.
- In collaboration with partners, assist in documenting "lessons learned'" across the FAI partners programme including experiences of supporting the National PMTCT programme.
- In collaboration with the country director and technical director, identify opportunities of resource mobilization and actively participate in proposal writing for relevant support.
- Maintain an updated database of technical and programme reports including site visits, monthly reports, quarterly and annual reports.
- Serve as member of the National PMTCT Partnership Forum, National Care and Treatment Partners forum, and other relevant fora including working groups or subcommittees in support of the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare AIDS and TB Unit programme.

Required Qualifications

- Medical qualification MBChB (MD equivalent) or advanced nursing degree.
- Masters in Public Health an added advantage.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

- Good knowledge of the Zimbabwe Health system and HIV/AIDS programmes.
- Experience in working in a national PMTCT programme and highly developed skills in programme planning, coordination, implementation and monitoring.
- Proven abilities to work successfully with a wide variety of people including developing networks.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with good computer literacy.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects while working as part of a team.
- Energetic, independent, self-motivated with ability to work independently and without frequent supervision.
