UNICEF seeks an Accounting Officer for our Supply Division, based in Copenhagen, Denmark who will, under the general guidance of the Accounting Manager, be responsible for financial management and reporting for the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunizations (GAVI) procurement activity within UNICEF.

The duties include:

1. Managing the GAVI multi-year ceilings and financial variances, by country and support type, to ensure the Board approvals are not exceeded.
2. Reviewing and approving CTNs prepared by the unit for adjustments to the GAVI Account relating to surpluses and deficits.
3. Evaluating operational accounting controls and recommending changes in financial system (e.g. FLS modules) and procedures to meet new requirements. Recommending system and process changes and improvements identified during performance of duties and responsibilities and for effective automation of manual processes.
4. Designing spreadsheets, databases and reports to support the management of GAVI procurement.
5. Participating in the design, testing and implementation of new or revised systems relating to the accounting units of FMAC. Conducting business analysis to ensure compliance with the Financial Rules and Regulations and external reporting requirements. Coordinating user testing.
6. Responsible for year-end closure requirements in respect of the GAVI project accounts.
7. Establishing objectives for the staff. Supervising, training and providing guidance to the staff in the unit.

Qualifications and Competencies:

- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Business Administration with concentration in accounting, financial management or equivalent professional qualifications.
- At least two (2) years of relevant and progressive and successful work experience at the national and international levels especially in the areas of financial management, accounting and/or audit. Experience in business analysis and/or system development is highly desirable. Extensive work experience in a computerized accounting environment. Experience in SAP financial modules (FI/FM/CO).
- Proven problem solver with the ability to resolve unique situations where no previously established policies and procedures exist.
- Demonstrated analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
- Very good knowledge and experience on the use of computer applications. Intermediate to advanced user of Excel, Access and/or SAP.
- Good communication, customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Well-organized and able to set direction for the unit and establish harmonious working relations in an international and multi-cultural environment.
- Fluency in English.
- Knowledge of another UN working language would be desirable.

The contract duration is for one year and contract renewals will be subject to availability of funding.
