(CLOSED) Community Liaison Manager

Mines Advisory Group (MAG)
Mines Advisory Group
Closing date: 06 Dec 2009 -- (CLOSED)
Location: Colombia

At MAG we deliver practical and positive solutions that assist the process of peace and stability in both conflict and former conflict countries. During the past 16 years we have safely found, removed and destroyed millions of landmines, small and large bombs, missiles and other tools of armed conflict. By freeing up millions of acres of land we are the precursor to the development and economic growth of conflict-affected countries throughout the Middle East, South East Asia and Africa.

Community Liaison (CL) is the medium through which MAG gathers, analyses and disseminates information in order to identify and implement the most effective solutions to the obstacles and dangers caused by remnants of conflict. It enables MAG to better target mine action resources to the areas of greatest need.

MAG will require additional Community Liaison Managers in Colombia in the New Year, to support it's programme there. The successful candidates will work to strengthen the capacity of field teams and other local partners to effectively manage and implement Community Liaison and Community Based Risk Reduction Education (RRE) activities, and recommend further development of Humanitarian Mine Action (HMA) activities within Colombia.

The successful candidates will have previous experience of successfully managing and implementing survey and RRE projects in mine action, and will have experience of formal capacity building and coaching / mentoring national staff at management and implementation levels.

With fluent spoken and written Spanish and also excellent English language skills you will have the opportunity to manage and implement behavioral change projects, operating in a highly independent manner in both Bogota and Antioquia.

You will therefore need to be a self-starter with the desire and will to see through changes that can have huge impact on the lives of those affected by mines and UXO. Areas of operations will be remote with basic amenities. You will need to be able to deal with living and working in such a challenging environment.

Please note, to be successful in your application you will need to have fluent spoken and written Spanish and English language skills and have previous experience in either the Humanitarian Mine Action, Remnants of Conflict or Small Arms and Light Weapons fields.
